14. LGchat

Post by LGforum on Thu 22 Dec - 23:09

14. LGchat Version 4! Current version: 4.3.0
IMPORTANT: By Installing this script you agree for your forum domain to be stored in my database for the purposes of knowing total installations and locations. This will be done automatically once installed.

Visit Here For Installing - Installing is simple

(all forum versions as always - but does not get tested or even thought about on phpbb2)

Why Choose LGchat?
Not only that, it is the most advanced FM chatbox modification around, the only one with a PM feature.
LGchat Is always improving and bringing more and more custom commands and great features.
It comes with easy to edit options so you can set your settings how you like it.

Screenshots of new features
The PM feature:

The new buttons:

The online list:

and of course, the old 'sound toggle' and things are still there.
Introduction
So here it is, the long awaited LGchat Version 4 WITH the private messaging feature!

Okay, so unfortunately as the chat gets more and more advanced, it does get harder to install, so i've decided to host the script externally, and only provide users with a small piece of javascript to put on their page.
I've also changed it to make it a lot easier to edit by providing some options which can be changed. Smile Which i'll get onto later.

Installation
Visit Here For Installing

The Options
- The options are explained on the installation page.

Changes and Updates
Here is a list of things changed:
- The buttons are two seperate buttons now. One to open the chat, one to open an online list.
- obviously the addition of the online list. This is handy as you can check who is in the chatbox without joining it yourself. It will also automatically update, like the numbers do.
- Added my avatar to the top of the box. Sorry, but i have put a lot of work into it so i need that slight bit of recognition.
- I sorted the bug where when you closed and opened the chat you had to scroll all the way down. It will not be at the bottom of the chat so you dont' have to scroll.
- and of course the PM feature which i'll explain how to use for those who don't know.
- Externally hosted script.
- External site for LG Chat, easy installation, creates the code for you.

You must follow this exact pattern to send a private message.
'/pm username: message'

So to send a message to me it would be:
'/pm LGforum: Hi there LG!'
So you'll need to tell your members how to do this.

Okay, i think thats everything.

I have just installed it and it does not seem to work unless it is placed in a visible section.
Version 3 worked when I had it in the right hand sidebar and was hidden by this code
#left { width: 0px!important;}

can I move the buttons to teh left by changing
position: fixed;
right: 5px;

to
position: fixed;
left: 5px;

because I tried that and it did not seem to work

Ill have to help you when I'm back at a computer later unless someone else can help you in the meantime.
It has worked fine for others so I reckon you will have just made a slight mistake with the installation. Try completely removing version 3 first.

And you should put the HTML in an announcement if you don't use widgets. As I mentioned in the tutorial it will hide itself to guests.

thanks for that
I am using it in a widget as it makes it easier to add and remove it.
I meant I had problems with it not showing in the left side bar if it was hidden, not right. It works when I have it in the right.

I had completely removed everything for version 3 first

this isn't a problem and may be a feature, but I have noticed that the buttons in firefox have rounded corners and in IE have square corners.

now if you can only make it so I can only let one of my usergroups access or exclude specific usergroups it would be perfect.
Thanks for a great widget

Yup FM has scripts running for BBcodes which are preventing CSS3 properties in IE9 on our boards. I'm yet to look into it myself do I don't know the details.

What you'll need to do to hide it from certain users id first find their user is numbers and make a script which will hide the chatbox depending on the user id.

For example if you didn't want user number 9 to see it this script would do that:
Code:

if (uid == '9') { $('head').append('<style>.LGchatBtn{display:none}</style>');
}

where would that code go?
and if there was more than 1 id that needed restricting would that be possible.

I presume I would need to manually change it each time?
